Head of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) General Prayut Chan-o-cha has been nominated the new Prime Minister of Thailand.
The National Legislative Assembly held a meeting on 21 August 2014 to elect a new Prime Minister. General Prayut received unanimous 191 votes by the National Legislative Assembly.
The name of General Prayut was nominated by Mr. Tuang Antachai, a member of the National Legislative Assembly. The nomination was supported by 188 out of 197 members. No other name was nominated for the Prime Minister’s post.
The Secretariat of the National Legislative Assembly has forwarded the nomination of Prayut as the 29th Prime Minister of Thailand to the Office of His Majesty’s Principal Private Secretary for a royal command.
Born on 21 March 1954 in Nakhon Ratchsima province, General Prayut graduated from Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy. He was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army on 1 October 2010.
He took over national administration on 22 May 2014 and received the royal command, issued on 24 May 2014, appointing him leader of NCPO.
