Thailand proceeds with Medical Hub II
( Source: Bangkok Post , Nov 27 , 2010 )
Last year, the country earned about 62 billion baht from overseas clients. In 2008, 1.36 million foreign patients came to Thailand for treatment, 20% of whom were Europeans, wrote Thanawat Petlorlian for Post Today.
The proposed amendments to the constitution submitted by red shirt co-leader Weng Tojirakarn, above, were seen as among the most interesting of those tabled before parliament, but were never likely to be adopted.
Thailand\\\'s medical hub policy is now at the end of phase I and proceeding to phase II (2010-2014) which must receive approval from the National Health Federation Summit III before public hearings are held. The plan will then be submitted to the cabinet for final approval.
For the continuing phase I, there are two bodies responsible: an ad hoc committee appointed by the prime minister to develop Thailand into an international medical hub and the Public Health Ministry\\\'s international health care committee under the Health Service Support Department, which is also responsible for drafting the second phase plan.
